Project Summary

Our project aims to create products such as capsules and ointments by processing two medicinal and aromatic plants growing in the Artvin region within the scope of green chemistry and bringing them to the health sector, thus aiming a regional development. Our project aims to raise awareness by disseminating the studies to be carried out for this purpose through workshops, trainings, international symposiums and articles. In addition, our project will contribute to the dissemination of such studies by setting an example for the studies to be carried out in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants. Medicinal and aromatic plants to be studied in our project;

Ruscus colchicus:

Hypericum androseamum L.

The genus Hypericum L. (Hypericaceae) is represented by about 470 species in the world, 10 in Europe and 96 species (13 of which are woody), 43 of which are endemic in Turkey.

Hypericum androsaemum specimens, which are distributed in Northern Anatolia, were collected from Artvin, Hopa at an elevation of 160 m between June and August 2022. Since flowering continued throughout the sampling period, samples were collected at one week intervals in a controlled-sustainable manner so that fruit development could be completed with the onset of flowering. Flowers were sampled first, followed by flowers and fruits, leaves and ripening fruits, and finally primary shoots, wood and bark. Samples taken from the field were frozen at minus 80ºC.

The genus Ruscus L. (Asparagaceae) is a small genus represented by 6 species in the world and 4 species in Turkey.

Ruscus colchicus is considered as a non-endemic rare species. Ruscus colchicus samples, which are distributed in Giresun, Rize and Artvin, will be collected through field studies planned to be carried out in the vegetation period of 2023.

The collected samples will be dried by sublimation method under low pressure in a lyophilizer device and stored at -40oC. In the next stage, the dried parts will be pulverized and microwave-assisted green extraction processes will be carried out. Essential oil and phenolic compounds will be analyzed by chromatographic methods.
